New Delhi, Apr 7 (PTI) AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the Congress, which is keen to join hands with the AAP in the national capital, has to go one step ahead. “The Congress needs to get its act together and not rely on the AAP. If it doesn’t, the AAP will not give it any seat,” Kejriwal said. “It can’t claim that it wants to work with the AAP.”
Kejriwal said the AAP has made it clear to the Congress that it would prefer an alliance with it in Delhi only if the two parties contest all the seats together. “The AAP has conveyed to the Congress that it would support the grand old party in Chandigarh if it gets to contest three seats in Haryana — Faridabad, Gurgaon and Karnal. AAP has said that if the Congress gets its act together and wants to work with the AAP, it can work for the Delhi elections as well,” he said.
According to the AAP, it is willing to give up Chandigarh and Nuh — but only if the Congress agrees to contest the Delhi polls jointly. “If the Congress is keen to work with us, it has to support us in the Delhi elections as well,” he said.
Kejriwal said the AAP will give the Congress a time period to clear its stand. “The Congress has to make up its mind. If it is serious about working with us, it should come out with something concrete in a few days,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress general secretary in-charge of the party’s national capital unit P C Chacko said they discussed the issue with Kejriwal. “Delhi is an important state and we will not let anyone come between us and Delhi,” Chacko said.
“Congress has always taken a responsible stand, and we will take the same stand this time too,” Chacko said. 827ec27edc
